Wisdom Tooth

Well, all that's over. I'm in no mood to write about it; at least not as much as I wanted to anymore.

I've got several job opportunities to consider, one I've already applied for and en route to a second interview for, and another - wherein I know who one of my superiors would be - to think about.

The only wrinkle in everything here is that I've got a wisdom tooth growing out of the top right back (whoo, three adjectives) section of my gums. It's been giving me infections and light fevers, pretty much sapping my energy. I get so tired before lunch is even over! Just walking through a 7-eleven makes me wanna go back to bed and sleep all day.

Gotta find time to head over to the dentist and have that little bugger extracted.

But I'm doing alright, considering all that's been going on. I'm just keeping my eating habits in check and making sure I eat healthful food 90% of the time. That, and a shittonne of vitamins and fruit juice.

It's Saturday and I have to stay at home and rest. Blargh.

To make things worse, the landlord is having some renovations done on the apartment unit below ours, and this sledgehammering and shoveling racket has been going on all day... Grrr.

Oh well, time to read up on digg and some blogs. :3

My mom and aunt took a picture of the empty shelves at a local Carrefour in Villalba. Wow. I didn't think it would be that bad! The trucker strike is really doing some damage to the flow of commodities in Madrid.

Supplemental Weirdness

If last week was marked by going on for days without sleep, this week was branded by the exact opposite. Since Monday, I have slept for 12 hours upwards almost each day.

+ Mon: 12 Hours
+ Tues: 15 Hours
+ Wed: 10 Hours
+ Thu: 13 Hours

Also, the times I spent being awake and doing stuff, I was almost always tired, lethargic, and my energy always got drained pretty quickly. It's this freakin' infection. I mean, I got a throat infection that's been on the verge of going away for the past four weeks already. I've got no colds or fever, I've functioned normally, until this week. All I have is a slightly itchy throat and this sometimes yellow, sometimes white crud on my tongue that's an obvious indicator of bacteria.

Grrr.

Still, I should stay optimistic.

A Week Of Coffee, Tea, Country Music And Sleep (Or The Lack Of It)

Man, things have been crazy the last four days.

I've been revisiting my old artwork, trying my hand at writing short stories, sleeping close to seventeen hours in one day, drinking different kinds of tea (Green, Oolong, Chamomile), trying (and failing) to finish leftover coffee beans that have stayed in rotation for a little bit too long. I mean, after the novelty wears off, who really wants to drink pepper-flavored coffee on the regular? Seriously.

I also tried to clean my 4-year old keyboard... which was interesting, to say the least. Okay, it was disgusting. Vacuum, Wipeout, Soap and Water. Good riddance, E. Coli.

I was supposed to attend a coffee seminar at Starbucks Waltermart this morning, but I overslept due to a short story that I had to just bang out 'cos it wouldn't let me sleep. It's about a guy who wakes up in an empty room to find that everyone in his city has turned into a zombie (original, I know). But it's the delivery and the context that matter. Plus, I still don't know if I really want zombies or giant, pink, gene-spliced mutant bunny-roaches with lightsaber carrots. I also plan to insert some socio-political commentary somewhere in there about socialized healthcare. It'll be a hit with the kids, I tell ya.

I managed to roll off my bed and give myself a concussion by falling off the floor, so I'd have no choice but to stay awake or die. Then, I headed off to Origin Cafe to do an interview with Ms. Gina Sy, the proprietress. I expected to do a 15-minute interview, but it was so much fun we ended up talking for 90 minutes. After that, I stole a cappuccino and headed off to Glorietta.

Tumaas nanaman ang pamasahe? Kamote. Kamote kayong lahat. Tse. 11 pesos na sa bus, 8 na sa jeep.

Headed over to Starbucks Makeroom to my homies in the coffee industry (what up Jay, K-rissy, Chai; keep pullin' those shots right and we be down) to pick up my stash (a fudge brownie, decaf drip, and a replacement beaker).

Went home, unloaded my digicam and the digital audio recorder. Gonna be workin' on those tomorrow. The interview should be up on coffeerev within the next two weeks; still have to transcribe and edit it, make it available as a podcast, and then there's the new Africa Kitamu coffee beans that I have to review.

I've also come to a realization that not all country music (or similar-sounding genres) has the tendency to inflict temporary retardation and/or loss of cognitive and motor functions. Lately, I've been listening to some Carey Ott, Assembly of Dust, and Neko Case... they blend in well with some of the lighter pop/jazz/bossa songs I've got on one playlist (like Better Than Ezra, Coldplay, Jamie Cullum and Miho Hatori).

I'm also now really seriously thinking of a reload.

The next few days will be fun. Now if I can just get some sleep and not die due to lack thereof.

Insomniac

It's nights like these that come all too often for me - I'm sleepy, I'm tired, yet I lay in bed for hours, unable to sleep. I eventually turn the lights back on, pick up a book, check my blogs, or just watch late-night movies. Without knowing it, I'll glance up at the clock and it's already six in the morning the next day.

I've been like this for more than a decade now, and frankly, it sucks.

And no, it's not the coffee, since I've only been seriously drinking for two years (if anything, it even makes me sleepy).

My dad and most of the doctors I've talked to have advised against sleeping pills, arguing that they can be habit-forming (in other words, addicting). I think it's time to seriously reconsider. It's been more than 10 freakin' years, after all. And frankly, I'd rather be addicted-but-asleep rather than clean-but-up-all-night.

Friends and Indifference Don't Mix

Pins from Hong Kong Disneyland

I was cleaning up a bit in my room when I came across these pins I had bought over two years ago from Hong Kong Disneyland. I had meant to give these to the people I deemed my closest friends at the time, but things kept getting in the way... now I don't know what to do with them. At the time I was really thinking hard what to get my friends back home, and I settled on these (they were expensive, as is everything in any tourist destination).

Some time after I got back from Hong Kong in 2006, our clique suddenly imploded. People got cheated on, broke up, the group got crazy, tried to calm things down... it was a mess. Eventually everyone just started to go their own way.

The sad thing about all of this is how much indifference has grown and settled in. I'd really like to hang out with these guys, but it's been really hard to even just set a date for a movie or to chill out at the mall nowadays, I don't know why. I've known these guys for more than a decade now, and frankly, I'd like to see more of them. Like we used to, if possible.

We all live less than an hour away from each other! This has got to be some kind of joke.
