It's really funny how animals develop unique personalities. It's almost like they're human (minus the talking and with more fur)! A-dolf is really laid back and would rather sleep all day than do anything. He's the friendlier of the two; if anyone is in the living room just chilling out or watching TV, he'd casually walk up to them and surprise them by jumping up on their laps and asking to be petted. Or he'll just try to sleep on top of you.
Kasmot is pretty much like a ball of energy - she's always bouncing around and attacking A-dolf, living room furniture, and pretty much anything else that moves or dangles. She's pretty funny too; a lot of times, she'll just pounce on A-dolf while he's sleeping on a chair. Then, when A-dolf's got her pinned down (in other words, winning the playfight), she meows and complains as if saying "hey, pick on somebody your own size!". When A-dolf relents and turns away to go back to sleep, Kasmot waits a few seconds, then gets right back up and attacks A-dolf's head ("Rarrr, I'm a headcrab!"). The fight continues!
She's so hyper, that A-dolf started sleeping on top of the living room bookshelf just so he wouldn't get bothered by Kasmot. That is, until Kasmot grows up; when that time comes, he won't have any place to hide!
Just got back from the vet to pick up A-dolf after having him neutered. Right now, he's probably thinking "OMG, where did my balls go?!"
Poor kitty. But it was the right thing to do, otherwise he'd just get himself hurt wandering about the neighborhood. Now, he's just a plain housecat. He's still a bit dizzy, but he's starting to settle back down. Still yowling though. Must be confused.
Heck, who wouldn't be confused? Add really angry to the mix too!
Oh well. He's due back at the vet next week, to have the stitches removed. In the meantime, He's got antibiotics and topical stuff to keep him from getting a wound infection.
I had been wondering why my cat, A-dolf (so-named due to his black-fur-strip-on-white snout, and after Mel Brooks' musical reimagination of Hitler) had been howling and pacing around the house restlessly the past few days.
I did a search for "cat behavior" on Google, and turned this up after perusing several sites:
The howling, pacing, and housesoiling of a cat in heat (A heat can last up to 21 days and can occur three or more times a year)... The urge to roam to find a mate which may involve travelling long distances, getting into cat fights, upsetting neighbors, all of which may result in possible injury or death.
So A-dolf just wants to get his mojo going.
That would explain him always wanting to get out of the house, and when he manages to slip out, he usually comes back wounded and/or limping. Seriously, he sucks at fighting!
Anyway, I'm looking to have him neutered so he can go back to being his usual not-in-heat self - sleeping all day, lounging around, and pouncing on my lap while I'm sitting on the sofa.
