The Good:
Today, I was able to write a really good storyarc script, wholly enabled by imbibing possibly immoral amounts of Arabian coffee.
The Bad:
Now I can't sleep becuase I drank possibly immoral amounts of Arabian coffee.
The Stupid:
I also ate half of an 18" pizza; now I feel like I have rocks in my stomach in addition to my being wired.
Man, things have been crazy the last four days.
I've been revisiting my old artwork, trying my hand at writing short stories, sleeping close to seventeen hours in one day, drinking different kinds of tea (Green, Oolong, Chamomile), trying (and failing) to finish leftover coffee beans that have stayed in rotation for a little bit too long. I mean, after the novelty wears off, who really wants to drink pepper-flavored coffee on the regular? Seriously.
I also tried to clean my 4-year old keyboard... which was interesting, to say the least. Okay, it was disgusting. Vacuum, Wipeout, Soap and Water. Good riddance, E. Coli.
I was supposed to attend a coffee seminar at Starbucks Waltermart this morning, but I overslept due to a short story that I had to just bang out 'cos it wouldn't let me sleep. It's about a guy who wakes up in an empty room to find that everyone in his city has turned into a zombie (original, I know). But it's the delivery and the context that matter. Plus, I still don't know if I really want zombies or giant, pink, gene-spliced mutant bunny-roaches with lightsaber carrots. I also plan to insert some socio-political commentary somewhere in there about socialized healthcare. It'll be a hit with the kids, I tell ya.
I managed to roll off my bed and give myself a concussion by falling off the floor, so I'd have no choice but to stay awake or die. Then, I headed off to Origin Cafe to do an interview with Ms. Gina Sy, the proprietress. I expected to do a 15-minute interview, but it was so much fun we ended up talking for 90 minutes. After that, I stole a cappuccino and headed off to Glorietta.
Tumaas nanaman ang pamasahe? Kamote. Kamote kayong lahat. Tse. 11 pesos na sa bus, 8 na sa jeep.
Headed over to Starbucks Makeroom to my homies in the coffee industry (what up Jay, K-rissy, Chai; keep pullin' those shots right and we be down) to pick up my stash (a fudge brownie, decaf drip, and a replacement beaker).
Went home, unloaded my digicam and the digital audio recorder. Gonna be workin' on those tomorrow. The interview should be up on coffeerev within the next two weeks; still have to transcribe and edit it, make it available as a podcast, and then there's the new Africa Kitamu coffee beans that I have to review.
I've also come to a realization that not all country music (or similar-sounding genres) has the tendency to inflict temporary retardation and/or loss of cognitive and motor functions. Lately, I've been listening to some Carey Ott, Assembly of Dust, and Neko Case... they blend in well with some of the lighter pop/jazz/bossa songs I've got on one playlist (like Better Than Ezra, Coldplay, Jamie Cullum and Miho Hatori).
I'm also now really seriously thinking of a reload.
The next few days will be fun. Now if I can just get some sleep and not die due to lack thereof.
Got the chance to really get in "the zone" for the first time in a long time. Worked on the first Breakfast Blend page, but I wasn't able to finish it, though. I'm roughly at 30%. The new art style I'm trying to implement calls for more attention to colour and detail, thus requiring more time. I would say that I'd be needing somewhere between 12-16 hours per page... and right now, I don't know where I'm gonna get that time, even during the weekends.
The good thing is that I've more or less started on my comic-making process again, and I'm looking to refine it and work faster. I'm really feeling in the groove for the comic now, but between me, my work, and other more important priorities, I've got little time to spare....
In fact, it's waaay past the webcomic's launch date (late January)...! But I'll find a way.
It's an incredible rush to be in the zone... time flies, and you're so focused on what you're doing everything else is drowned out - even hunger (while working on the comic today, I went 5 straight hours without eating or drinking...)!
Today, I went to the TOPAK! magazine launch at Powerbooks Live! at Greenbelt 3. I picked up the very first issue and had it signed by some of the artists; then I hung around for a few minutes to mess around with them while there weren't too many people around yet.
There weren't too many people at the outset; I stayed for about 30 minutes or so, and as I was leaving, people were starting to pile in. I surmise that the reason for the diminshed crowd interest is due to the fact that American Idol's Elliot Yamin was having a concert right next door at the Glorietta activity center.
Anyway, I got my copy of the magazine, and I be workin' on the next few pages for my submission. I'll have to pick up Stanley Chi's Chopstix some other time because
I can feel it. This is the week I'm gonna finish the whole comic. Unless of course a retarded gorilla stomps into Starbucks and rips both my arms off while drinking my coffee as I scream and cry like a 5-year old girl... with the baristas pointing and laughing at me at the same time.
Anyway, I have been inking to the tune of some excellent new music, courtesy of some under-the-radar but great bands. I recently looked around absolutepunk.net and found a few awesome albums from bands like Sherwood, Treaty of Paris, and The Graduate. And they're all FREE.
I'm loving it. I guess you can describe these bands as "pop/punk" mixed with "emo" in general, for lack of better terms. Also a tinge of new wave/synth pop in there, especially with The Graduate and Sherwood. There's actually some pretty decent guitar work in there (although there isn't much in the way of solos). But otherwise, good good stuff.
Once I scrounge up some cash, I'm looking to purchase a few of these great bands' albums from off the Internet.
Gotta get back to work.
I really oughta get around to updgrading to Ubuntu 7.04 ... heck, 7.10's already just around the corner. I'm leaning towards installing the Ubuntu Studio variant, for obvious reasons. :3
Anyway, the ink work I'm doing on the Class Comics commission has been slower than I would have liked but has been going steady at the same time. I'm doing my best not to sacrifice quality for speed (like today, for instance... I've only done 3/6 panels of one page because of the little details), and I should be finished before the month is over. Ariel wants to put out his book to before this year's Komikon, and I obviously don't wanna delay this thing more than I already have.
Also, I've been having some fun with Remember the Milk. Right now, I'm finding it more useful than Google Calendar in getting my nuts together.
For the past few months, I've been working with my buddy, Ariel, on a comic for his upcoming book. He has recently perused me blog (this one), and he found one of my updates when I was penciling it during a trip.
I lifted this image from his blog showing his lifting of an image from my blog showing a preview of the pages that he commissioned me to do for the upcoming class book.
I'm an ass, I know. *headbutts nearest wall*
In all seriousness, I'm feeling great about this, and I'm looking forward to getting this finished as soon as possible, so we can see that book, yeah? A great story can be produced only when you have a great premise and great characters. That's what I was given to work with, and I'm happy to say that I believe it's gonna turn out very well.
Check out Class Comics on the web, and then check out Ariel's collection of various works. Wait for the book, chollos.
